“Joy” is dark, heavy and feels brutally personal in how the words are delivered. The song got me hooked straight away.
With the occasional drums and heavy distortion of guitar, it feels as though the song’s trying to burst open at times. But instead of bursting outwards, it manages to keep the huge energy temporarily bound until the song feels like it’s skin is beginning to tear, exposing the dark flesh beneath. “Joy” is a visceral audio experience and will take you to areas of music few dare to tread.
I confess that I hadn’t actually heard Queen Of The Static Opera’s music until I was recommended this song by Borderline Musick on Twitter. As a result I will be checking out her previous work pronto!
