Migrating my website to Statamic

I love Laravel. I also really like WordPress, for what it is. So when it came to originally putting my personal site together I just wanted to get a simple WordPress site together. I have attempted to build my own website and blog in Laravel from scratch multiple times over the years. I even stuck with a build for a while but ultimately went back to WordPress. My issue was only down to the fact that I wanted to write…

If I start rebuilding my website in Laravel yet again, I really need to see it through and commit to it. If the last couple of weeks have taught me anything it’s that I love working with Laravel. Let’s see how this goes.

On Keeping a Commonplace book/site

From Wikipedia: As soon as I heard about the idea of a commonplace I was immediately interested and wanted to start keeping one myself. But then I soon realised — my website is kind of on the way to becoming what I would call my own commonplace. I tend to write about a bunch of things that interest me, and had even begun saving quotes from the few books I read. Not only will this give me a new angle…

Welcome to the Junji Ito Manga Site

The Junji Ito Manga Site is my dedication to the works of acclaimed Horror Manga artist and writer, Junji Ito. Ever since I read my first manga, The Enigma of Amigara Fault, I was hooked on Junji Ito’s work. I couldn’t quite describe the feelings that his work gave me. I was unsettled; I was excited; and I loved it. After writing about his, and other artists’, works on my other website, the Horror Manga Site, I have decided to…

I need to write more

I literally started writing this post at the moment I had the thought that I should be writing more. I love the idea of being a writer and for that I know that all I need to do… is write. You see, I keep finding myself wanted to write about different topics that interest me, however, I keep thinking that I need to put those posts within a “branded” website. For example, I actively write on another blog at https://horror-manga.com which is…

“Visits” are real people too.

When trying to write every day, I find myself looking at my WordPress dashboard to see how many visits I’ve had up to that point. When the bar chart goes way higher than the average I get excited; when it is lower or completely empty I get down. Sitting down to wait for my dinner today I thought to myself that these numbers on the bar charts are real people. Flesh and blood people who have landed on my website…

Taking my blog too serious

I’m finding I’m taking my blog way too seriously. Instead of just writing; checking; and publishing, I’m leaving posts in draft worried they are not professional enough. This is stupid. This website is for me and me alone. I’m currently writing (have written) a long post about my experience with playing Life is Strange and I’m too busy trying to make it sound like a professional review to actually publish it. From a couple of podcasts I’ve listened to recently…

I’ve recently started a music blog at https://album-reviews.co.uk . If you’d like to follow me on @_albumreviews that would be swell. thx.

Update 7th February 2021: My album reviews site is no longer active. Instead, you can find them in my reviews area.

I’ve been neglecting my website for a week or two. Even though most of it is drivel that’s only applicable to me, I think it’s important for us to have our own place on the web – one that isn’t locked in to somebody else’s garden. I.e. Facebook, Twitter etc.

New Website design for 2016

I have finally launched the redesign for my personal website. There’s nothing much different in the layout — it was more about the back-end structure than trying to come up with a fancy new front-end design. Overall I’m happy with it. Now I just need to add back in the little extras I added before, such as posting via SMS form my phone, and queuing the jobs up into background tasks. But as it is now, it seems to me…
