Matthew Brennan Cassel was born on May 17, 1982 in Northridge, a suburb of the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles, California. His father, Greg Cassel (late now), was a Hollywood screenwriter, while his mother, Barbara Cassel, was an award-winning set designer. Cassel has three siblings – an older brother, Jack; a younger brother Justin as well as a younger sister Amanda.
Matthew Cassel had his high school education at Chatsworth High School where he was a multisport athlete. In addition to playing soccer, he also joined the baseball team and excelled at both. Cassel was so good that he began receiving athletic scholarship offers before his senior year in high school.
